Critical Thinking

On of the definitions of critical thinking that is given in "Critical Thinking: An Introduction," is Michael Scriven's definition which is that critical thinking is skilled and active interpretation and evaluation of observation and communications, information and argumentation. In Quart's "Sarcastic Times," we can consider Rachel Maddow and John Stewart critical thinkers because they go into depth and really think about the topics that they talk about. Maddow and Stewart do not just start mentioning things off the top of their heads, as seems to be the case for Barney Frank and John Lewis. It seems like Barney and Lewis do not do very much research about their topics and they do not go into depth about it either. They just seem to mention the basics that do not require much research or thinking. Maddow and Stewart, on the other hand, they actually think about their subjects, therefore it would be appropriate to call and consider them critical thinkers but not Barney and John.
