Mass Media is defined by the chapter in "Media in Everyday Life" as “media forms designed to reach large audiences perceived to have shared interests.” The term was created in the 1920’s as a result of the sudden influx of new working class consumers and also the rise of industrialism.
Public Sphere is basically an open forum in physical space (but in our current society I think the public sphere can be virtual) where people can discuss issues and opinions together.
Convergence is the coming together of various mediums of media, such as internet, music, telephones and videos. For example, watching TV on the internet and music videos and things like that. This term is relatively new; it emerged in the 90’s. Which is around the time the internet took off.
A critique is a critical comment that can be made in response to anything.
Now that technology has made it so easy for messages to be sent to and from person to person the idea of mass media, what it is and how it works in our society has changed. The term mass media was created because of technology and as technology progresses so will the definition of mass media and its’ role in society. Media used to be a more individualized process; a single person reads a newspaper or looks at a build board. Now the same media messages can be sent to millions of people in an instant.
